Last June I had the chance to finally learn how to really shoot a rifle. As a relatively new hunter whose focus had solely been on archery, I had ignored using a rifle — mostly because I didn’t know what I was doing... but, after receiving a .300 PRC from my company Implant Compare, I decided I needed to learn.
So, I signed up for a three day workshop where I learned the mechanics of long-range shooting. With some expert mentorship I spent a weekend learning all there was to know about windage, minutes-of-action, and how weather and distance can impact the trajectory of a bullet over a long distance. To be honest, after our first classroom session I was more confused and overwhelmed than when we started, but I had the next two days to put over 160 rounds through my new rifle to get to a comfort level of pinging steel out to 1000 yards away. Over the next few posts I am going to key in on a few of the main lessons that I got out of this experience:
Patience
Breath & Sight Control
Trigger Squeeze
